About

Founders searching for a design firm face a specific problem: every agency sounds right for startups. The pitch is always some version of fast, collaborative, and built for growth. The reality varies enormously — in seniority, in whether the process is actually suited to a six-week timeline and an evolving brief, and in whether the work holds up past the launch announcement.

What We Cover

Startup Design Firms covers ten studios selected and reviewed specifically for how well they serve companies at the startup stage. Each was evaluated on five criteria: portfolio quality through live deployed work, genuine startup stage fit, strategic depth, delivery and process clarity, and independent validation from named clients on verifiable platforms.

Each profile includes specific clients, a clear best-for note, and an explicit not-a-fit-for — because knowing where an agency isn't right is as useful as knowing where it is. You can browse all ten profiles, compare them side by side, or read the guide to choosing a firm.

The Five Criteria

Inclusion & Review

The ten firms listed met the inclusion threshold across all five criteria. A studio's absence reflects either a gap in verifiable evidence or a practice not calibrated for startup conditions — not a judgment on its general design quality.

The directory is reviewed once per year. For corrections, profile updates, or research inquiries, get in touch at hello@startupdesignfirms.com.
